Camden Tavern
A thriving bar in H Street’s post-prohibition era, the Camden Tavern became a Thrift Store in the 1960’s. The building stands today at the corner of 13th & H.
1930's
H Street has become one of DC's hippest locations for business startups of all kinds. Up and down the corridor, many first-time business owners are discovering the neighborhood provides a host of benefits that simply aren’t available in the rest of the District - ample customer base, affordable retail and mixed-use buildings, a strong revitalization initiative providing business assistance, and a community with many unmet retail needs.

Currently more than a billion dollars in new development is under way on H Street.

  • More than 2,000 units of new housing are in the pipeline on H Street and in the nearby neighborhoods.
  • Historic buildings are being renovated and improved on the corridor and in the neighborhoods.
  • More than 2 million square feet of new office space is under development
  • More than 6,000 employees are expected on H Street.
  • More than 80 new businesses have joined longer-term businesses on the corridor – and many more will soon occupy the available spaces.

Businesses that move to H Street are discovering that area residents are hungry to spend their retail and service dollars in their own neighborhood – and major investments by the DC government are helping startup businesses meet those needs. If you’ve been waiting for the perfect time and the perfect place to start your business in DC, you’ve found it here on H Street.
